Activity Blocks
2025: During the February Holiday, we ran a 4-day activity block, 'Super Sports'. Partnering with McLaren Leisure Centre as our venue, our sessions comprised of Zorb Football (with Bubble Football Zone), Roller Disco (with Rollerbeats), the Determinator Inflatable and our very own 'Wacky Sports' session. Across the four sessions, we welcomed almost 40 young people in total from P6-S3.
In Spring 2025, we followed this up with 4 weekend sessions across April and May, this time with a wildlife theme. We went alpaca trekking in Thornhill, visited the respite animals at the Glendrick Roost Welfare Centre, welcomed Animal Man's mini zoo to CYP and went on a nature walk through Coilhallan Woods.
Both blocks were available free-of-charge thanks to funding from the Nineveh Charitable Trust and the Stafford Trust.
2024: Early in the year we ran a joint project with Dounans Outdoor Activity Centre (SOEC). Across 6 weekend sessions, our young people got to try their hands at archery, bushcraft, climbing, leap of faith, nightline and rafting. Participation was free thanks to funding from the Walker-Shoolbraid Charitable Trust.
Summer 2024
Our 2024 Summer Programme was funded by the Nineveh Charitable Trust, enabling all 6 sessions to be offered free-of-charge to local young people. Sessions included trips to Sky Studios and Odyssey Adventures, as well as two cooking sessions, paddle sports (with Roll Outdoors) and circus skills (with Think Circus). In total, 50 young people participated over the course of the summer, with ages ranging from 9-14.
Killin Youth Clubs
During the summer of 2021, CYP were contacted by a group of local Killin residents looking to start up local youth groups. With a group of dedicated local volunteers and in partnership with the local development trust (KAT), sessions got underway in early 2022. Following around 18 months of fortnightly groups (and a summer programme), CYP formally completed the handover process of the groups to KAT and the service is now being run independently through the development trust.
For the latest information on the Killin Youth Groups, please visit the Killin & Ardeonaig Trust (KAT) website.
Callander Landscape Partnership (2018-2021)
As part of the Callander Landscape Partnership, CYP helped to deliver a multi-year ‘Heritage Skills’ programme. This was established to empower local young people to gain experience within the hospitality, outdoor tourism and conservation sectors. In total, this project saw 7 young people successfully complete their Modern Apprenticeships – some in Hospitality and some in Rural Skills.
Our Hospitality MA’s split their time between gaining hospitality experience (within our social enterprises) and working towards outdoor qualifications. This included Outdoor First Aid, Mountain Bike Leader training, Hill/Navigation skills, Archery and Canoeing/Rescue qualifications.
Our Rural Skills MA's worked closely with a range of local and national partners. Thanks to funding from Historic Environment Scotland, these MA’s also worked towards a Level 2 award in Cultural Heritage and successfully completed a course at Canal College. Projects included archaeological excavations, natural conservation projects, community volunteer events and an oral history project. Callander’s Landscape spoke to Niall about his experience of the programme.
